We study the equilibrium statistical properties of the potential energy landscape of several glass models in a temperature regime so far inaccessible to computer simulations. We show that unstable modes of the stationary points undergo a localization transition in real space close to the mode-coupling crossover temperature determined from the dynamics. The concentration of localized unstable modes found at low temperature is a non-universal, finite dimensional feature not captured by mean-field glass theory. Our analysis reconciles, and considerably expands, previous conflicting numerical results and provides a characteristic temperature for glassy dynamics that unambiguously locates the mode-coupling crossover.

We raise the question whether a simple model for traffic, generic but based on microscopic rules, can provide an additional angle for interpreting flow through a road system. Using the totally simple exclusion process (TASEP) on a road segment with ramps, we show that measuring the flow directly at the road junctions may be a useful setup. We show that the presence of junctions affects the characterisation of traffic, suggesting that interpretations in terms of a 2-phase or a 3-phase description may be complementary, rather than contradictory. We furthermore argue that hysteresis-like features can appear in a system with junctions, which is intriguing as the TASEP dynamics as such do not lead to hysteresis. We discuss our findings in the light of boundary-driven phase transitions.

In this Letter, we have demonstrated the possibility to efficiently relay the radiative heat flux between two nanoparticles by opening a smooth channel for heat transfer. By coating the nanoparticles with a silica shell and modifying the substrate with multilayered graphene sheets, respectively, the localized phonon polaritons excited near the nanoparticles can couple with the multiple surface plasmon polaritons near the substrate to realize the heat relay at a long distance. The heat transfer can be enhanced by more than six orders of magnitude, and the relay distance can be as high as 35 times in the far-field regime. This work may provide a way to realize the energy modulation or thermal communications especially at long distances.

Hard and soft proteins at fluid interfaces

Graphene grown epitaxially on SiC, close to the charge neutrality point (CNP), in an orthogonal magnetic field shows an ambipolar behavior of the transverse resistance accompanied by a puzzling longitudinal magnetoresistance. When injecting a transverse current at one end of the Hall bar, asizeable non local transverse magnetoresistance is measured at low temperature. While Zeeman spin effect seems not to be able to justify these phenomena, some dissipation involving edge states at the boundaries could explain the order of magnitude of the non local transverse magnetoresistance, but not the asymmetry when the orientation of the orthogonal magnetic field is reversed. As a possible contribution to the explanation of the measured non local magnetoresistance which is odd in the magnetic field, we derive a hydrodynamic approach to transport in this system, which involves particle and hole Dirac carriers, in the form of charge and energy currents. We find that thermal diffusion can take place on a large distance scale, thanks to long recombination times, provided a non insulating bulk of the Hall bar is assumed, as recent models seem to suggest in order to explain the appearance of the longitudinal resistance. In presence of the local source, some leakage of carriers from the edges generates an imbalance of carriers of opposite sign, which are separated in space by the magnetic field and diffuse along the Hall bar generating a non local transverse voltage.
