Medium-enhanced discrimination of chiral molecules via resonance energy transfer

Resonance energy transfer among chiral molecules serves as a valuable tool for enantiomer discrimination, involving nondiscriminatory and discriminatory transfer rate components, the latter being sensitive to molecular handedness. Our study reveals a higher ratio of these components in the retarded regime or far zone of separation distances. The discrimination can be modified by the surrounding medium, where local-field effects play a crucial role. We identify the optimal dielectric medium for discrimination among identical chiral molecules and show that unconventional media can reverse discriminatory effects. We additionally consider chiral environment, which takes an active part in the discrimination and find that local-field corrections in a chiral medium introduce surprising effects.
