The effect of resistive field grading coatings on the electric field distribution in a medium voltage bushing has been studied. A typical coating is obtained by applying a commercial resistive field grading material and a conductive varnish that we both have previously electrically characterized. The electric field distribution over the bushing surface was computed and analyzed using a finite element method software (Flux 2D). The electric field enhancements at its critical points with and without field grading material were considered and confronted with experimental partial discharge detection. The complementary between the field grading material and the conductive varnish is highlighted: a special care of the true capability of the conductive layer to withdraw the electrical charges is stressed out.

An exocyclic π-extension of phenanthriporphyrin reduces the macrocyclic antiaromaticity of the formed expanded carbaporphyrinoids.

We report a detailed experimental investigation of the influence of the formation of nano-crystallites on the vibrational, electronic and optical properties of CrSi₂ thin films. Both amorphous and nanostructured thin films were investigated by means of electrical resistivity, Hall effect measurements as well as Raman and infrared spectroscopies. We show that both types of films exhibit a semiconducting-like behavior, with the notable difference that the high defect concentrations in amorphous films act as hole donors, modifying the electronic band structure and optical constants. The effect of the film thickness on electrical properties is well captured by the Fuchs-Sondheimer model indicating a decrease in the charge carrier mean free path, likely due to the formation of amorphous/nano-crystallite interfaces that contribute to strongly scatter the charge carriers. Raman spectroscopy performed on nano-crystallized thin films evidences the presence of a Raman-active mode at 229 cm^-1 and confirms DFT calculations predicting a mode at 248 cm^-1, the observation of which had remained elusive so far in polycrystalline CrSi₂. Measurements of the refractive index and dielectric constants of amorphous thin films show a very high refractive index in the mid-IR range. Our results illustrate how the controlled growth of nano-crystallites can be used to tailor the electronic, vibrational and optical properties of amorphous thin films.

La découverte des nanotubes de carbone en 1991 par Iijima et de leurs propriétés exclusives a ouvert la porte à de nombreux champs d’applications, notamment en électronique, photonique et fluidique. Le contrôle des propriétés électroniques et optiques des nanotubes a rapidement émergé comme un enjeu scientifique de taille.Dans ce contexte, le contrôle du volume interne des nanotubes de carbone via encapsula- tion d’espèces chimiques est établi comme une stratégie de stabilisation et de modification des propriétés électroniques. L’occupation de ce volume permet d’éviter l’adsorption de molécules de gaz ou d’eau, ayant montré de solides aptitudes à modifier/altérer les propriétés électro-optiques des nanotubes. Par ailleurs, la nature du dopant et donc du transfert de charge permet le contrôle des propriétés des nanotubes de carbone dans les conditions thermodynamiques ambiantes. Par exemple, la capacité à fabriquer des transistors à effet de champ à base de nanotubes de carbone de type n et p ouvre de nouvelles opportunités en électronique moléculaire. Par ailleurs, la position du niveau de Fermi étant susceptible de modifier le taux de recombinaisons radiatives dans les nanotubes de carbone le contrôle précis de celle-ci permet de maximiser le rendement de photoluminescence des nanotubes, ce qui présente un intérêt pour des applications en bio-imagerie.Dans ce travail, nous avons réalisé le dopage n et p de nanotubes de carbone avec différentes espèces. Le dopage est mis en évidence par plusieurs types de techniques physiques (spectroscopie, microscopie) à plusieurs échelles (ensemble/objet unique), et les valeurs déduites sont confrontées à des simulations théoriques (Ab Initio). Il a été mis en évidence que le diamètre des nanotubes contrôle l’organisation supra-moléculaire des systèmes hybrides. La relation entre organisation supra-moléculaire et efficacité du dopage est également mise en évidence. Le contrôle du dopage permet en outre de modifier drastiquement les propriétés de photoluminescence des nanotubes de carbone de petits diamètres.Ce manuscrit s’articule autour de cinq parties. Dans un premier temps, on décrira les aspects structuraux ainsi que les propriétés physiques des nanotubes de carbone. Dans un second temps, on réalisera une revue non exhaustive de l’état de l’art concernant l’encap- sulation d’éléments chimiques ou de molécules dans des nanotubes. En troisième partie, on détaillera les techniques expérimentales propres aux étapes de dopage des nanotubes, et de leur mise en forme. On explicitera également les techniques de caractérisation utilisées.Dans une quatrième partie, on discutera de la stabilité des systèmes hybrides à synthéti- ser, en utilisant des résultats de calculs théoriques basés sur la théorie de la fonctionnelle de la densité. On mettra également en évidence le succès de la synthèse de ces systèmes par différentes techniques d’analyses physiques (microscopie en transmission, diffraction rayon X). Enfin dans une dernière partie, les échantillons seront étudiées au moyen des techniques précédemment décrites. L’étude du transfert de charge et des modifications des propriétés optiques sera discutée à plusieurs échelles (ensembles de nanotubes et nano- tubes isolés). Des modèles expérimentaux existant dans la littérature seront utilisés pour quantifier le phénomène de transfert de charge, les valeurs obtenues seront confrontées à des calculs Ab-Initio.

Carbon-based dots have been attracting much attention as potentially superior alternatives to more conventional semiconductor (e.g. cadmium-based) nanoparticles, due to their fascinating optical properties, chemical and photochemical stability, a unique environment-friendliness, and the versatility of fabrication routes. So far, different commercial materials and organic compounds were considered as carbon precursors for the syntheses but in many cases there are issues with their homogeneity or the fabrication that may require high-temperature conditions. We report on a simple low-cost procedure to produce hydrophilic and hydrophobic fractions of non-conjugated carbon-rich polymer dots (PDs) with the average diameter of 2-4 nm (hydrophilic PDs) and ca. 6 nm (hydrophobic PDs), involving acetone as carbon precursor. The as-obtained PDs reveal the greenish-blue photoluminescence (PL) that is characterized by high PL quantum yields (∼5-7%) and complex kinetics of the PL decays with the average lifetimes estimated to be 3.5 ns. Such luminescent acetone-based PDs may have potential in several application fields, including sensing and bioimaging.

The so-called buffer layer (BL) is a carbon rich reconstructed layer formed during SiC (0001) sublimation.The covalent bonds between some carbon atoms in this layer and underlying silicon atoms makes itdifferent from epitaxial graphene. We report a systematical and statistical investigation of the BLsignature and its coupling with epitaxial graphene by Raman spectroscopy. Three different BLs arestudied: bare buffer layer obtained by direct growth (BL0), interfacial buffer layer between graphene andSiC (c-BL1) and the interfacial buffer layer without graphene above (u-BL1). To obtain the latter, wedevelop a mechanical exfoliation of graphene by removing an epoxy-based resin or nickel layer. The BLsare ordered-like on the whole BL growth temperature range. BL0 Raman signature may vary from sampleto sample but forms patches on the same terrace. u-BL1 share similar properties with BL0, albeit withmore variability. These BLs have a strikingly larger overall intensity than BL with graphene on top. Thesignal high frequency side onset upshifts upon graphene coverage, unexplainable by a simple straineffect. Two fine peaks (1235, 1360 cm1), present for epitaxial monolayer and absent for BL and transferred graphene. These findings point to a coupling between graphene and BL.
