Chemical Bath Deposition (CBD)

par Olivier BRIOT - publié le , mis à jour le

It is now well established that the best solar cells based on the p-CIGS/n-CdS heterojunctions are obtained when the CdS is deposited at very low temperature, with a chemical technique involving solution growth.

Several precursors are mixed at 80°C and give rise to a reaction which lead to the deposition of a CdS film of 50nm, within a few minutes, with great reproducibility.
The chemical bath seems to play a very beneficial role, since no other technique (like vaccuum deposition of CdS) has been able to achieve comparable device results.
This is mostly not understood, and can be the subject of many investigations to fully understand the role of the chemical solution versus direct material deposition.
